Farewell John Wright

Touched by Wright While I cant be as articulate as amit varma, I echo his sentiment. The Indian team of recent years is as much John Wright's team as it is Ganguly's. and his name brings forward more sweet memories than regrets.

Doodh hai wonderful

Move over Boost. Milk is here to stay. One more of the Indian Cricket team has joined the Milk Brigade. MS Dhoni`s mother states in todays Indian Express "The secret of his energy is the buffalo milk he drinks daily, more than one litre". Sehwag, you have company now.

Bharatiya Jubilee Party

Bharatiya Jubilee Party Indian Express asks BJP to introspect, exorcise its ghosts and move forward if it wants to be the alternative to Congress it claims it is.

India wins the second one dayer

Dhoni destroys Pakistan
India managed to win but Pakistan hold their heads high. They went down "with their guns blazing" (Refer to Amit varma`s blog for more cliches) unlike India`s capitulation in the Bangalore test. I almost gave myself a manicure as Pakistan kept pace with the target. If only they had not lost those wickets.

Gmail doubles storage space

Will we ever see the day when our email account screams "Inbox Full" ? Not likely anymore. Gmail has started providing 2GB storage space to its users. It would be very interesting to see what ploy Yahoo employs to counter this. Storage space has ceased to be an issue in the email business. Only unified services under one id will be the differentiating factor. Yahoo ,one must admit , is way ahead in this respect. Its instant messenger itself is a killer application. I know may people who refuse to dump their yahoo id because of the contacts they maintain in YM. Add to this free webhosting, Groups and greetings services and any other competitor will find it pretty hard to catch up. Google is very marketing savvy. Take Gmail itself as an example. When Gmail was started, mail accounts were not given out on a platter. You could only get one from an invite sent you by a Gmail user.(This could as well be a ploy to prevent the service to grow exponentially and destroy the credibility usually associated with Google). This created an aura of exclusivity around Gmail. In one years time, it has already built itself a large user base. Google also has the excellent Blogger and Picasa(for photo organization and sharing) in its pocket. It is also offering groups services. Its desktop search works faster than yahoo's desktop search on my computer. Google is developing its own web browser according to some sources. What it lacks is an application/service that would make people stick with Gmail? What will the people at Googleplex come up with? It is going to be pretty interesting watching these wars for market share. Hail the consumer. The consumer is the King.
